
Tanur (Malappuram): The fake campaigns on social media regarding COVID-19 do not spare even the deceased and it ended up putting a bereaved family in distress.
The family of late Fayisha (31), wife of VPO Sameer who runs Akshaya Centre in Beach Road in Tanur, was devastated after a fake campaign was unleashed on social media alleging COVID-19 was the cause of her death.
Following the allegations, COVID test was performed and the family waited for the results before conducting the last rites. The dead body was buried after 30 hours.
Fayisha was admitted to a private hospital in Chemmad following physical discomforts. But she died of heart attack on Thursday. She had given birth to her third child on March 23.
After the death, a fake campaign was circulated on the social media that Fayisha died of COVID-19. As the family was about to start the funeral, the health workers came and took the body to Tirur district hospital.
The fluid samples were tested and the result came on Friday stating she was COVID negative. Following this, the last rites were performed at Nadakkavu Juma Masjid cemetery by 10 at night.
