Venjaramoodu (Thiruvananthapuram): Excise department officials who visited the house of an accused in a case for issuing a warrant were shocked to see the plight of his family. They discovered that Biju, the accused, was bedridden after suffering an injury in 2018. Preventive officer Bijulal and team were totally moved by what they witnessed and arranged Onam supplies for the family that struggled to make ends meet.

The incident happened in Elavupalam village on Saturday (Aug 19). Upon arrival, excise officials discovered that the accused was severely injured while loading wooden logs onto a lorry five years ago. Biju lost his memory and ability to talk in the freak accident. To make things worse, his wife has also fallen sick now. Their daughter, who was also found to be ill, had dropped out of school. Biju’s son, at present, is studying in class 11.

The officers brought the issue to the notice of their colleagues at the Vamanapuram range office. In a noble gesture, the staff at the range office pooled money and bought household items and vegetables for Biju’s family. The poor family also received financial aid from the group of good Samaritans.

As per the request of the excise inspector Mohankumar, Ikma Malayali association provided financial aid. Panchayat member Geetha Praji provided clothes.

Elavupalam Pourasamithi assured future help to the family.
