According to a Niti Aayog report that was published on Monday, 13.5 crore people in India have moved out of multidimensional poverty between 2015-16 and 2019-21.

The report details that Kerala’s Ernakulam district is the only place in the country with no poverty. As per Niti Aayog’s performance of states in poverty reduction, Kerala tops the chart. This rank list is prepared on the basis of 12 criterias decided upon by the Niti Aayog.

According to the National family health survey held in 2015-16, the percentage of poverty in the state was 0.70 which has come down to 0.50 percent in 2019-21. This means that over 50,000 people moved out of poverty within five years.

As per the comparative performance of districts, Ernakulam is the sole winner with no poverty. This came down to zero from the earlier rate of 0.10 in the previous year's report. Kottayam, which recorded zero poverty last time, has gone up to 0.14 now.

The report indicates that most districts in Kerala have a poverty rate below 1%.
