Kochi: Passengers were left stranded and faced considerable inconvenience on Tuesday after several train services were partially rescheduled due to renovation work at Ernakulam Junction South railway station.

Construction on Platform 2 began the same day, leading the Railways to revise the services of six trains, including the Kannur Intercity and Venad Express. Many passengers, unaware of the changes—especially the shift of the Kannur Intercity’s starting point to Aluva—struggled to adjust their travel plans.

However, railway authorities said that prior information regarding the revised schedules had been communicated to reserved passengers and the media.

The Kannur Intercity Express (16305), which usually departs from Ernakulam at 6:00 am, will now originate from Aluva at 6:22 am until the 26th. Similarly, the Venad Express (16304), departing from Thiruvananthapuram Central at 5:45 pm, will terminate at Kottayam during this period.

Other rescheduled trains:

  • Ernakulam–Palakkad MEMU (66610): The train, scheduled to depart from Ernakulam Junction at 2:45 pm, will operate from Aluva from Wednesday until the 26. There will be no service between Ernakulam and Aluva during this period.
  • Guruvayur–Ernakulam Passenger (56317): The train departing at 1:25 pm from Guruvayur will terminate at Edappally until the 26.
  • Kollam–Ernakulam MEMU: The train leaving Kollam Junction at 5:55 am will terminate at Tripunithura until the 26.
  • MGR Chennai–Alappuzha Daily Express (22639): The train will run with a delay of around 30 minutes until the 25.

Passengers who arrived unaware of the changes faced difficulties on Tuesday, particularly with the Kannur Intercity now starting from Aluva.

However, railway authorities stated that prior information had been shared with reserved passengers and the media regarding the revised schedules.
