Thiruvananthapuram: Amid speculations of an ongoing feud among the senior leaders in CPM, veteran leader EP Jayarajan expressed his willingness to resign as LDF convener, citing ill health.

Recently, senior leader P Jayarajan demanded action against EP Jayarajan over allegations of illegally acquiring property and building a resort and Ayurvedic establishment in Kannur. However, many in the Kannur faction of CPM were unhappy with these developments as differences began surfacing following party's three-day meeting, which concluded last Friday. The absence of EP Jayarajan from attending the event also fueled rumours of an internal feud between two senior leaders in the party.

The CPM leader alleged that EP Jayarajan’s wife, PK Indira and his son are on the director board. Jayarajan alleged that the property worth Rs 30 crore was acquired to build the resort and Ayurvedic village.

EP Jayarajan, former Minister for Industries and Sports in the first Pinarayi Vijayan Ministry, faced setbacks following the appointment of MV Govindan as CPM state secretary. His absence from attending party functions in the following months further opened debates over his future.

However, EP Jayarajan has cited ill health as a reason to restrain from attending party events. He claimed that he is unable to continue in his position due to difficulties in travelling and attending party events in Thiruvananthapuram. However, political observers cited that Jayarajan is facing a tough battle following financial allegations against him and his family.

At the same time, CPM state leadership has decided to launch initiatives for “cleansing” the party from corruption and abuse of power during the second term in Kerala.
