Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty on Monday announced that electricity consumers will see a significant reduction in the fuel surcharge on their December bills. The move is expected to ease costs for customers across the state.

How much will the surcharge fall?

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) confirmed that the fuel surcharge, which had been 10 paise per unit from September to November, has now been cut:

Customers who receive bills monthly will see the surcharge fall to 5 paise per unit.

Customers who receive bills bimonthly will pay 8 paise per unit.

This adjustment offers noticeable relief compared with the previous rate.

Why did the reduction become necessary?

Some media reports recently suggested that removing the surcharge cap could lead to higher electricity charges. Responding to these claims, the Electricity Minister’s office clarified that the surcharge has in fact been reduced.
