Thalayolaparambu: The accused in the case where Rs 42.72 lakh was siphoned off from a private financial firm here are reportedly absconding. Krishnendu (27), a DYFI joint secretary, her husband CPM member and Devi Prajith (35), a Vaikom native are the persons on the run.
Krishnendu’s husband, Ananthu Unni is a party member and part of the CPM Thalayolaparambu local committee. Police say that more people are involved in this extortion.

During the initial probe, police found that Krishnendu stole the money herself and that Devi was aware of this. During the period that they were swindling money, Krishnendu reportedly applied for a passport to escape abroad, police say.
The fraud came to light during the auditing carried out between September 4-20. The owner of the firm, a Udayamperoor native says that Krishnendu stopped coming to the firm just days before the auditing was to be over.
Since April 2023, the duo has not recorded the money paid by people on redeeming pawned gold to the company’s account. In this manner, Rs 42.72 lakh was extorted from 19 people.
Krishnendu transferred money into her own account and into accounts held by her relatives. She also damaged the CCTV cameras and destroyed evidence to ensure that the owner would not be aware of these deeds. The police said that further investigation is required to decipher whether the swindled money was used and whether there are others involved in this case.
The CPM area committee sources say that both Krishnendu and Ananthu were expelled from party membership months ago. However, the local committee has reportedly submitted a letter to party leaders to expel the couple.
