Kanhangad: Police have taken into custody all accused in connection with the murder of DYFI activist Ouf Abdul Rahman.

The Hosdurg police took into custody MSF Kanhangad municipal president Hassan on Friday morning while Muslim Youth League activist Ashir was arrested around noon. The officials had already taken Muslim Youth League activists Issahak and Irshad. Police will record the arrest of all four later in the day.

Issahak, who is in custody, told police that Muslim Youth League Kanhangad municipal secretary Irshad had stabbed Ouf Abdul Rahman. Issahak also stated that Hassan and Ashir had taken part in the murder. Irshad had admitted of taking part in the attack.

Ouf Abdul Rahman was murdered near Kalluravi at 10.30 pm on Wednesday. Abdul Rahman and Muhammad Shuhaib were going towards the old beach on their motorbike when they were stopped and attacked by Irshad and other Muslim Youth League activists. Shuhaib escaped with injuries and managed to identify the attackers. Shuhaib told the media that he saw Irshad and Hassan.

The post mortem report stated that an 8 cm deep stab injury on the chest of Ouf Abdul Rahman on the right side was the cause of death.

It is suspected that the murder was caused by the friction that developed after the Muslim League candidate lost the LSG polls.

The attacks started in the locality after LDF won ward number 35 of Kanhangad Municipality. Earlier, Muslim Youth League activists had hurled stones at LDF workers including the candidate, while they were celebrating the poll victory. Wednesday’s incident is also a continuation of this attack.
