Planning to sell off the old unusable vehicles to scrap metal dealers? Be advised that if proper procedure is not followed, you may lose more money than you make. The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) is preparing to take strict action against the non-compliance with procedure when selling vehicles to scrap metal dealers.

The reason behind the action is the increasing number of norm violations. Before the vehicle is sold off to scrap dealers, the RC (Registration Certificate) of the vehicle should be submitted before the respective RTO and necessary procedures followed. Ernakulam RTO instructed that vehicles must be sent for dismantling only after this.

The information of such a violation of law came out during the inspection conducted by the Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with the Kalamassery Police for the bike and the owner who was racing in Kalamassery. During the inspection conducted at Kalamassery Glass Factory Colony on Wednesday, it was found that the owner of the vehicle had sold the bike to a scrap dealer in 2019 and had kept the RC with himself.

The investigation was based on information that an Apache bike having the same RC as the vehicle sold to scrap dealers was involved in illegal racing. This happened because the vehicle was given for demolition without surrendering the RC.

Before dismantling the vehicle or giving it to dealers, legal procedure including surrender of RC should be followed, MVD instructs.
