Kollam: If you have any confidential information on drug activity, then you can earn lakhs by disclosing the same to the authorities now. What’s more? Not just the one who provides information, but the government officials who seize the drugs following the tip off will also be rewarded. For this, the Government has formed a state-level reward committee.

Although the Central Government had issued guidelines in this regard in 2017, there was no specific mechanism for disbursing the amount in the state. No one has applied for the same as well. 

The new committee is formed on the instructions of the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Reward
The reward ranges between Rs 30,000 to Rs 2 lakh. The amount should be paid by the State Home Department. This will then be obtained from the Central Narcotics Control Bureau.

There will be a two-tier system for allocating rewards. The IG of Police Headquarters has been directed to give a reward of Rs 30,000 to the staff, who verified the information, and Rs 60,000 to the informers.

The second committee comprises the Joint Secretary/Additional Secretary of the State Home Department and two AIGs of the Police Headquarters. The committee will award a reward of over Rs 30,000 up to Rs 1 lakh to government officials and above Rs 60,000 up to Rs 2 lakh to informers.

As per the Central Rules, if the test report from the chemical lab is positive, up to 50 percent of the total sanctioned reward amount can be paid before the trial. The reward will be based on the amount of material seized, the extent of the help provided by the informant and the accuracy of the information.
