Kochi: Director M.A. Nishad has strongly criticised the organisers of a recent event at Kaloor Stadium, where Uma Thomas MLA was seriously injured after falling from a 15-foot-high temporary stage. The director condemned the organisers and event managers for proceeding with the event without ensuring proper safety measures and said they were the main culprits behind the incident.

In a Facebook post, Nishad expressed his relief upon hearing that Uma Thomas's health was improving, but he stressed that certain questions needed to be answered. “I am happy to know that Uma Thomas MLA's health condition is improving. May she recover soon. However, some serious questions remain unanswered,” he wrote.

He questioned the organisation of the event, which aimed to secure a spot in the Guinness World Records with the dance program Mridangam. “This was nothing but a ‘beastly drama...The way in which only one person (Divya Unni) was the focus in the community dance and other dancers were relegated to the background as dancers (a term used in film industry) is completely condemnable,” Nishad added. 

Nishad further demanded that the names of the event organisers and managers, who ignored safety protocols despite the accident, be revealed. "The culprits are also the organisers and event managers who went ahead with the program despite the accident. Their names should be released," he stated. "The public has a right to know who was behind this event. How much money did they charge the dancers have been out so the reason for the trade should also be out."

He also called for accountability: "The entire team behind this event, which lacked basic security measures, must be brought to justice."

The incident, which raised concerns about safety at public events, has sparked an outcry, and many are calling for a thorough investigation into the organisers’ negligence.
