Thiruvananthapuram: DGP has ordered an investigation into the death of Neyyattinkara native couple who accidentally immolated themselves while threatening to commit suicide before the officers who arrived to evict them from their house. DGP’s order comes in the backdrop of the allegations raised by the children, relatives and neighbours of the couple. Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP B Ashok will be in charge of the investigation.

It is alleged that the police were influenced by one of the neighbouring ladies and proceeded with the eviction drive. The court had issued time till January 4 for the couple to leave the house. However, police action was in violation of this order. Rajan and wife accidentally immolated themselves while trying to resist the eviction.

Police did not grant Rajan anymore time despite his request. Meanwhile, it is also alleged that Revenue officials did not accompany the police officers to Rajan’s house.
