Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Devan has quit the BJP, resigning from the post of state vice president and the party’s primary membership. He announced his decision at an event held at the Kanichukulangara Devi Temple.

Devan said he had faced certain issues during the last elections. He said he had already written a resignation letter relinquishing his post as state vice president and his primary membership of the BJP. The letter will be handed over to the state leadership soon.

In 2004, Devan formed a political party named the Nava Kerala People’s Party. The party was later merged with the BJP. At the time, Devan had said the Kerala People’s Party was formed because Kerala continued to remain underdeveloped. He had also said the decision to merge the party with the BJP was taken following a meeting with Union Minister Amit Shah.

Devan also contested the 2004 Wadakkanchery by-election as a candidate of the Kerala People’s Party.
