Aroor: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department has ordered a special statewide drive to detect unauthorised air horns in vehicles.
The inspection will be conducted from October 13 to 19 to identify horns that produce excessively loud sounds.
The move follows a recent incident in Kothamangalam, where Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar took immediate action against buses speeding and blaring horns during an inaugural event. Bus permits were cancelled, and drivers’ licenses were suspended. The new inspection drive comes in the wake of that crackdown.
Officials are tasked not only with identifying illegal air horns but also with destroying them publicly by crushing them under a road roller in the presence of the media.
“...Take stringent action. The seized equipment should be displayed to the media and destroyed with a road roller,” reads an order issued via WhatsApp to MVD officials.
Daily reports on the inspections are to be submitted to the authorities. Earlier, the High Court and the Motor Vehicles Department had issued strict directives to remove unauthorised horns from vehicles.
