Kannur: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has registered a suo-moto case in relation to the death of a nun here a few days ago.
M Soumya (58), the Mother Superior of Poovam St Mary’s Convent, hailing from Thrissur, was killed after being hit by a private bus near the Panniyur Pepper Research Centre bus stop. The accident happened when she was on her way to the church.
Interestingly, a week before her death, Soumya notified DySP of the accident-prone area in front of her convent. She requested the authorities to take action on the matter.
Following her death, the Human Rights Commission registered a case on the basis of newspaper reports and directed the district police chief and Kannur RTO to submit a report within 15 days. The case will be considered on February 14.
