
Thiruvananthapuram: The Customs Department served a notice to Minister for Higher Education K T Jaleel asking him to appear for interrogation. He has been directed to reach the Customs Preventive Headquarters in Kochi on Monday for questioning.
The interrogation is in connection with the incident of distributing religious texts. The Customs has registered a separate case on this incident and the investigation is progressing.
Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also questioned K T Jaleel regarding the same incident.
Religious texts weighing a total of 4478 kilogram was brought to the state as diplomatic parcel. This was distributed in Malappuram.
The Customs found that this was a violation of protocol and distribution of items delivered through diplomatic parcel is illegal. Customs had also registered a case regarding the import of dates.
