Haripad: CPM worker Soman (56) , who was shot by his neighbour Prasad (50) using an airgun, died while undergoing treatment at the Alappuzha medical college. 

The shooting incident happened in Pallippad on Monday evening. Prasad is a retired soldier. Soman, who was shot twice with the airgun, succumbed to injuries around 8 PM yesterday. 

Police said that close-range shots using the airgun led to Soman’s death.

Tension had erupted between Soman and Prasad earlier as well. It is even reported that the duo had violently barged into each other’s house earlier, further escalating the situation.     

Prasad is absconding. The deceased who had worked abroad earlier, had returned to Kerala sometime back.

Meanwhile, CPM workers in the area have accused that Prasad is a BJP worker and termed the incident as an act of political vengeance. Investigations are underway.
