Palakkad: Once again senior CPM leader from the district and former MLA P K Sasi, who had faced sexual harassment allegations earlier, is in news for wrong reasons. He has been removed from all elected positions of the party. The decision was taken at the party district secretariat meeting held in the presence of CPM state secretary MV Govindan on Sunday. The party’s disciplinary action comes after it was found that the Mannarkkad area committee had manipulated the funds raised for the construction of its office. Once the state committee approves this decision of the district leadership, the action will come into force.
This is the third time that action is taken against Sasi, also KTDC chairman. It has also been decided to dissolve the Mannarkkad area committee, of which UT Ramakrishnan is the secretary due to sectarian issues. Irregularities have also been found in the appointment of Universal College chaired by Sasi.
Sasi is the district president of CITU and a member of the district committee of the party. These privileges will be forfeited. There will also be a demotion process. A committee, headed by Puthalath Dinesan, conducted an investigation into the matter. The investigation report was discussed in the district secretariat meeting led by M V Govindan. The decision was taken following this.
Meanwhile, CPM district secretariat member T M Sasi has been given the interim charge of the area committee. It is indicated that the decisions of the meeting held on Sunday were unanimous. This strong action, which took place just before the conference period, gives an indication that there will be tough stances. The decisions are expected to give more strength to District Secretary E N Suresh Babu.
Allegations were raised against Sasi regarding activities that violated party guidelines in the management of cooperative institutions. There were claims of irregularities at the party-controlled cooperative college in Mannarkkad, including receiving funds from party-controlled cooperative institutions. A committee led by V. Chentamarakshan collected evidence on these matters. It is suggested that the action was taken on the basis of the report of the committee, comprising state secretariat members Puthalath Dinesan and Anavoor Nagappan.
It was also decided to take back V K Chandran to the district secretariat and C K Chamunni to the district committee.
