Thiruvananthapuram: The draft plan for opening special clinics to treat health issues in recovered COVID patients has been prepared. The post-COVID clinics will be opened in hospitals ranging from primary health centres to medical colleges.

The health department initiated post-COVID clinics as the number of people who have other health problems after recovering from COVID keeps increasing. The recovered people should have a check-up in the clinics every month. The treatment centre will be decided according to the intensity of the health issues.

Those who have serious problems will be referred to taluk hospitals, district general hospital and medical college. A team of specialist doctors will be appointed here. People having critical health condition will be treated at COVID hospitals. Recovered patients can also seek treatment through telemedicine facility.

The deputy DMOs who are in charge of epidemic diseases are the district-level nodal officers of the project. Majority of the patients recovered from COVID-19 are suffering from fatigue, respiratory issues, memory loss, sleep disorders and depression. In many cases, these issues continue for a long time. The condition of people who already have critical illnesses get worsened in some cases.
