Kochi: A shocking revelation has come to light regarding medical negligence in the case of a COVID patient's death in Kalamassery Medical College.
Dr Najma of the hospital revealed that though the patient had a mask on his face, the ventilator was not connected. "This was told to me by the duty doctor. When he informed the senior doctors, he was advised not to make an issue out of this," Dr Najma said.
Earlier, an audio clip of a nursing officer at the medical college had come to light erupting a controversy. In the voice clip, the nursing officer had said that the patient died as the ventilator tubing was not connected properly. As the audio caused a controversy, the nursing officer was suspended.
"The voice clip was true. Similar situations have arisen during my duty time also. Though I didn't file a written complaint, I complained orally. The issues were solved after this," Dr Najma said. The doctor also said that she decided to react to the matter as all the blame was passed to the nursing officer and she was suspended.
"The explanation given by the medical college authorities regarding the death of the COVID patient identified as Harris was incorrect. As cameras are installed in the hospital, the staff including doctors and nurses are more vigilant now. However, isolated incidents like this happen sometimes," Dr Najma stated.
