Covid-19: Kerala clocks 4,677 new cases on Friday
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 4,677 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed the health department in a press release. Test positivity rate (TPR) was recorded at 8.26 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam - 823, Thiruvananthapuram - 633, Kozhikode - 588, Thrissur - 485, Kottayam - 369, Kollam - 330, Kannur - 295, Palakkad - 208, Pathanamthitta - 202, Wayanad - 202, Malappuram - 162, Idukki - 150, Alappuzha - 144, and Kasaragod - 86.
A total of 56,558 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 46 wards of 39 local bodies.
Along with 33 fresh COVID deaths, the health department also reported 255 deaths that are newly certified as Covid deaths based on revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 39,125 in the state.
1,69,347 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,64,542 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 4,805 people are in hospitals. 285 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.
Among the 49,459 active Covid cases reported, only 7.2 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
16 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 4,320 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 308 patients remains unidentified. 33 health workers also tested positive for Covid.
Meanwhile, 6632 recoveries were also reported in the state. 50,23,658 people were recovered from the disease so far.
