Thiruvananthapuram: Two cops were suspended in Thiruvananthapuram for rerouting Minister P Rajeev’s official vehicle through roads filled with potholes. The action has been taken against the police officers based on the report of the control room Assistant Commissioner, which confirmed lapses from the officials in duty.
Control room grade SI SS Saburajan, and commander of pilot vehicle NG Sunil were suspended here. Meanwhile, instances of discords have risen within the police department against the suspension of the cops.
Routes of the VIP vehicles are chosen after considering the traffic snarl. The suspended officials selected the particular path as it was the route with lower traffic. The departmental-level probe was initiated after the minister’s office marked discontent against the cops who rerouted the vehicle.
However, the minister said that he has no role in the police action. It is the duty of the police to fix routes and the action has been taken solely by the department, said the minister.
