The container, which was found open, has been presumed empty under preliminary inspection

Kollam: As feared, a container from the cargo ship that sank off the coast of Kochi has washed ashore at Cheriyazheekal in Alappad, Kollam. The incident came to light late at night when locals, alerted by a loud noise, spotted the container near the CFI Ground. It had crashed into the seawall, prompting immediate concern.
Authorities were promptly informed, and a team led by District Collector N. Devidas and City Police Commissioner Kiran Narayanan arrived at the scene to inspect the situation. As a precautionary measure, residents of nearby homes were relocated to ensure their safety.
The container, which was found open, has been presumed empty under preliminary inspection. Due to strong waves and rough sea conditions, efforts to bring the container ashore have so far been unsuccessful. Recovery operations continued late into the night, with additional assistance expected.
Customs officials are scheduled to arrive at the site on Monday morning.
