Venjaramoodu: A college student has alleged that police took him into custody from a bus stop and beat him up after taking him to the station.
Adityan Sureshkumar (20), a second-year BBA student at the Pirappancode UTI, claimed in a press conference that the SI threatened to implicate him in a marijuana case. He has filed a complaint with senior police officers and the human rights commission.
According to Adityan, he was waiting for a bus after an NSS camp at the college, at around 4:45 pm on Wednesday, when police came and asked him to leave the bus stop. When he told the officials that he was waiting for bus to return home, they verbally abused him and forcefully put him in the police jeep. He added that police beat and handcuffed him.
Adityan’s father bailed him out from the station, later at night. He was then taken to the Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital and then to the medical college hospital. Adityan recorded the police’s verbal abuse on his phone as a voice note. He has included this too in his complaint.
However, police said they reached the spot after locals complained that girls were being disturbed. Venjaramoodu SHO Anoopkrishna said he was taken to the station as he did not comply with police orders. He added that a case was registered for not following police instructions and Adityan was released.
