Kozhikode: In his explanation regarding the letter from Governor Arif Mohammed Khan seeking an update on the investigation into the allegations made by PV Anvar MLA—claiming that the phones of ministers, MLAs, and officials were hacked under the instruction of ADGP Ajith Kumar—Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan clarified that no misuse of call interception had occurred in the state. The police report on the investigation states that Anvar admitted to having no knowledge of the system or devices used for interception, nor how to intercept calls using such devices, the Chief Minister noted in his response.

In his letter, the Chief Minister stated that ADGP (Intelligence), DIG (ATS), and the Thrissur Range DIG conducted a detailed investigation into the MLA’s allegations. As part of the investigation, the statement of Anvar was recorded by Thrissur DIG at Government Rest House, Shoranur. According to the report, when Anvar was asked to explain what he meant by call interception, he clarified that he was referring to recording a WhatsApp call using another phone. 

According to the police investigation report, it has become clear that, no telephone hacking has taken place as alleged by Anvar during the period between January 1, 2022, to September 10, 2024, by any police officials from Kozhikode Rural, Wayanad and Malappuram, Special Operation Group or the Anti Terrorist Squad. During this period, phones of ministers, MLAs and political leaders were not hacked, the report said. 

All the call interceptions taking place in the state are being done by strictly adhering to the legal system of the country. The facilities being used for interception has not been misused so far, the report said. 

In his letter, CM said that, the government would not tolerate any sort of illegal activities in the state and is committed to uphold the law of the land. An FIR was registered based on the complaint lodged by one individual named Thomas K Peeliyanikkal, at Karukachal police station, CM said. 

In his letter seeking the progress of the investigation, the governor also has asked to take seriously the statement of Anvar that he too had hacked phones.
