Thiruvananthapuram: As the entire political spectrum boils over in connection with the serious allegations levelled against the police and Chief Minister’s Office, even the hardcore party supporters are left wondering about the persistent silence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. It is quite surprising for many as the CM, who used to confront his opponents unfazed in the past, keeps a stoic silence over the ruthless barrage of allegations from the opposition and even from the Anvar loyalists within the party. Since the Chief Minister chooses to remain silent, the party too treads carefully not to aggravate the situation, it seems.

It is quite an embarrassment for the party rank and file and supporters as no official denial has come out from either the Chief Minister or the party leadership regarding the allegation from the opposition that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar had met RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale in Thrissur ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The allegation gains weight as the BJP too has not come out denying this strongly, as state president K Surendran had casually warded off questions from the media regarding this as ‘baseless’.

The protest march organised by Youth Congress on Thursday in connection with the ongoing controversy ended in violence as Youth Congress vice president Abin Varkey got injured in a police lathi charge. Following this, KPCC too has announced protest programmes on Friday. Now, more criticisms have been coming up regarding a deal between ADGP Ajith Kumar and state BJP leadership, which embarrasses the CPM state leadership further.

It is interpreted that the allegations levelled by an LDF MLA have affected the image of the government and party as they find it hard to ignore because of the increasing support Anvar gains from the party supporters. As the allegations put the police, home department and even the Chief Minister in the shadow of doubt, the CM chooses to remain silent, leaving party supporters in utter disbelief. The cyber comrades who usually unleash a collective attack against the party rivals during such situations too remain silent, making the situation totally vulnerable for the party on all fronts.

Resurgent opposition

It was on Wednesday that leader of opposition VD Satheesan alleged that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar had met RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale in Thrissur at the behest of the Chief Minister. During this meeting, ADGP had given the assurance of the government to make the victory of Suresh Gopi easier in Thrissur, alleged Satheesan.

Anvar too had said that Ajith Kumar has too many friends in BJP. Congress is determined to use this allegation as a political tool to campaign hard against the government and CPM to corroborate their early allegations that there is a secret deal between CPM and BJP in the state. It was after this meeting that the conspiracy to disrupt the ‘Pooram’ was taken, Satheesan alleged.
