Thiruvananthapuram: Chandy Oommen, son of former CM Oommen Chandy, took oath as the new MLA of the Puthuppally constituency, following the footsteps of his father. The event took place post 10 AM on Monday morning following the question-answer session at the assembly. Oommen entered the hall along with MLA PC Vishnunadh. The Opposition approved the young politician’s entry into the Assembly by knocking on the desk.
Chandy Oommen took oath in the name of god. He greeted VD Satheesan and Pinarayi Vijayan with folded hands. After taking oath, he signed in the membership register and walked on to the dais to shake hands with the speaker.
After his interaction with the speaker, the newly elected MLA of Puthuppally walked up to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and a group of ministers in a friendly gesture. He greeted and engaged in conservation with his own party members as well.
The scheduled ‘group photo’ of MLAs at assembly on Monday was postponed to another date owing to the absence of CPM’s AC Moideen and two other MLAs. Usually group photos of MLAs are taken at the end of the tenure of a particular government. Meanwhile, a few Assembly members also opined that the decision to take a group photo amidst the ongoing row over BJP’s proposed agenda of ‘One nation One election’ might end up creating a wrong impression among the people.
