Kundara (Kollam): A factory owner committed suicide after finding no way to survive from the crisis in cashew nut industry. The deceased was identified as Nallila native Simon (40). He hanged himself in his cashew factory shed which ceased to function.

Simon was missing after lunch on Wednesday and his mother started looking for him. Later, she found him hanging in the shed near the house by noon. Simon and his father Mathayi were running Nirmala Matha cashew factory in Nallila. They were facing a debt of Rs 4 crore and received eviction notice from bank.

Apart from their own properties, they had also mortgaged properties of their relatives. The minister intervened and discussions were held seeking some more time to repay the debts, but in vain.

Simon is survived by his wife Asha and children Sanjana and Alvin, both school students. Last rites will be held at Nallila Bathel Orthodox church cemetery on Thursday at 1 pm after post-mortem in the district hospital.
