The Kerala Transport Commissioner has announced that, as per the union government's new directive, all used car showrooms are now required to obtain an authorization certificate under Section 55 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.
Used car showroom owners must acquire this certificate by March 31 to comply with the legal requirements. Detailed information on obtaining the authorization certificate can be found on the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ official website, www.parivahan.gov.in.
Legal complications
Showrooms operating without the certificate by this deadline will be prohibited from continuing their operations in the state, according to a circular issued by the Transport Commissioner.
The circular further emphasises that legal action will be taken against establishments operating without proper authorization, including vehicles kept for sale at these locations. These vehicles will be blacklisted, and additional legal proceedings will follow.
Public advisory
The public has been advised to avoid engaging with any used car showrooms operating illegally for the buying or selling of old vehicles.
