Thiruvananthapuram: A police case has been registered against former minister and RSP state secretary Shibu Baby John over allegations that he failed to hand over a flat despite receiving payment. The case was filed by Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Police.

According to the complaint, Shibu Baby John and his family promised to construct and hand over a flat on land registered in their name, but failed to do so after accepting money. The complaint was filed by Alex, a resident of Kumarapuram. There was reportedly an agreement between Shibu Baby John’s family and a construction company, Anda construction. The company reportedly received ₹15 lakh as part of the deal which was between it and Shibu Baby John’s family that owned the land.

According to the complainant, under this agreement, the payment was made in 2020. However, the flat was never handed over, according to the complaint.
Initially, the police had allegedly dismissed the matter, stating it was a civil case. However, after the complainant approached the Chief Minister and the DGP with a complaint against the police, a case was registered.

‘I have not taken even a rupee; the case is illegal’

Meanwhile, Shibu Baby John has responded, stating that he has not received even a rupee and that the case filed against him is legally invalid. He claimed that the agreement was made with the construction company as the landowners, and he does not know the complainant. According to him, the construction company is the one that collected the advance from the buyers, and all that he and his family did was provide the land.

The RSP leader also said as per the contract, if anyone has a grievance, they should approach the developer. He, however, added that agreement had stated that the flat would be constructed and handed over within four years, but the project has been stalled for seven years.
