Veteran CPI leader and Kerala MLA Vazhoor Soman dies while undergoing treatment after sudden collapse during a public event.

Thiruvananthapuram: Peermade MLA Vazhoor Soman has passed away at 72. The cause of death was a heart attack. He died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
The MLA was attending a public function in which Revenue Minister K Rajan and others were also present. During the event, the legislator experienced physical discomfort and was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He passed away while undergoing treatment.
Vazhoor Soman was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly as a CPI (Communist Party of India) MLA from Peermade constituency in Idukki district. He won the seat with a majority of 1,835 votes, defeating UDF candidate Adv Cyriac Thomas.
He had also served as the chairman of the Warehousing Corporation and State Vice President of AITUC (All India Trade Union Congress).
He is survived by wife Bindu and two sons — Adv Sobin and Adv Sobith.
