IUML leader Noorbina Rasheed resigns as IUWL national general secretary to protest Fathima Thahiliya’s candidature, which Rasheed and other senior women leaders view as a snub to the dedicated leadership of the Women’s League.

Kozhikode: Following her public expression of discontent regarding the Muslim League's candidate selection, Noorbina Rasheed has resigned from her position as the National Secretary of the Indian Union Women League (IUWL). She announced her resignation during a press conference held on Thursday, clarifying that while she has emailed her resignation to the leadership, she will remain a loyal member of the party.
Rasheed voiced her strong opposition, stating that those who orchestrated the "Haritha" controversy are the ones now being fielded as candidates. "Do we not have our own values? We cannot, in good conscience, accept a situation where the Panakkad family has been portrayed in such a poor light recently. We had expressed our dissent from the very beginning, insisting that such individuals should not be given seats. To us, the Thangals are our most beloved; we hold the Panakkad family close to our hearts. No one in the world has spoken against the Thangals like this," she said.
She directed sharp criticism toward Fathima Thahiliya, the UDF candidate for the Perambra constituency. While Rasheed noted there was nothing wrong with Thahiliya seeking a candidacy, she argued that the Women League should also have been considered. "Let the UDF candidate in Perambra first prove herself by serving as a councillor for five years," Rasheed remarked. She further questioned why other capable individuals were overlooked if the goal was a "generational shift," demanding clarity on what disqualified seasoned leaders from being considered.
