Kerala Cabinet announces ₹14 lakh ex-gratia for families of Thrissur’s Mundathikode blast victims and pledges to cover all medical costs for the injured.

Thrissur (Kerala): In a decisive move following the tragic fireworks explosion at Mundathikode here, the Kerala State Cabinet held a special online meeting on Wednesday and announced a comprehensive relief package for the victims.
The state government has sanctioned a total compensation of ₹14 lakh for the families of the deceased, comprising ₹4 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and ₹10 lakh from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). Those injured in the blast will receive ₹2 lakh each. Furthermore, the government has pledged to bear the full medical expenses for all survivors currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
Judicial inquiry announced
Meanwhile, a judicial inquiry under the leadership of Justice C N Ramachandran Nair will be held in the tragic incident. The Cabinet also decided to announce the tragedy as an extra ordinary disaster.
Seven victims identified so far
Meanwhile, seven victims of the devastating explosion at the fireworks storage unit in Mundathikode have been identified. The remains of four individuals have been handed over to their families.

To ensure specialist medical care for the injured, teams of doctors from various medical colleges have been deployed. Minister V N Vasavan stated that DNA testing is underway to identify the remaining bodies, and search operations using cadaver dogs are currently in progress.
