Kottayam: The Orthodox Church has come out strongly against the recent SFI protest at Kerala University, with Church head Baselios Marthoma Mathews III criticising the agitation, saying it was not a protest but a farce.

Expressing deep disappointment, the Catholicos said, “It was disheartening to see such scenes where male and female students, without any distinction, barged into the Vice-Chancellor’s office and engaged in what can only be described as theatrics. When I saw that, I truly felt saddened. As Swami Vivekananda once said, it feels like we are living in a madhouse.”

The Catholicos made the remarks during the Founder’s Memorial gathering of MD School held at the Old Seminary in Kottayam, where he openly condemned the actions of the SFI.

The Orthodox Church has previously spoken out against several government policies, and the Catholicos’ criticism of the SFI protest is seen in line with the Church’s earlier interventions on public matters.
