Kollam: In a miraculous escape, a 19-year-old boy survived a fall from a moving train on Sunday midnight on the Punalur-Chenkotta railway line. Madhusudhan, a resident of Tirunelveli, sustained only minor injuries in the incident.
The accident occurred around 1:30 am in the Udayagiri area, between Ottakkal-Edamon stations, known for the wildlife presence.
Madhusudhan lost his balance and fell from the train while returning from the restroom. He was travelling on the Palaruvi Express, heading to Tuticorin.
His relatives, who were traveling with him, immediately informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF). But it's Madhusudhan's quick thinking that helped the police. Acting quickly, he sent his exact location from his mobile phone to his family, which helped in locating him. He was found within half an hour after a search based on the shared coordinates.
Though he injured his leg during the fall, Madhusudhan was safe. The young man was on his way home to Tirunelveli from Ochira for the Onam holidays.
He fell in a spot on the Punalur-Chenkotta line that is known for frequent accidents. Luckily, he landed on soft grass and vines, which prevented serious injuries.
The rescue operation was led by RPF officers Jayakumar, Priyesh Babu and Boda Shivaji who coordinated the search and recovery efforts.
