Kottayam: The body of Anish Mohan, a native of Koorothuparambil at Kochumattom in Manarcaud, Kottayam, who went missing after a landslide during tunnel construction work in Sikkim, has been recovered. His relatives identified the body.

Anish was a Senior Manager and Geologist with the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).

The landslide occurred on Monday afternoon, trapping NHPC officials, employees of the contracting company, and labourers inside the tunnel. So far, the bodies of 20 victims have been recovered, while 5 people remain missing.

The family first learned about the incident on Monday night around 8 pm, when NHPC officials contacted AU Aneesh, Head of the Geology Department at Government College, Kottayam, where Anish had studied, seeking the family's contact details. Company officials also informed his brother Bineesh, who lives in Abu Dhabi. Anish's wife, Dr. Sangeetha, and his brother were flown from Delhi to Sikkim by NHPC officials.

Anish completed his bachelor's degree in Geology (2001–2004) and master's degree (2004–2006) from Government College, Kottayam. He joined NHPC in Haryana in 2011, where he lived with his family. Seven months ago, he was transferred to Sikkim for work, following which his wife Sangeetha and their children, Arnav and Karthyayani, moved to their home in Chaitanya Nagar, Tripunithura.

At his ancestral home in Kochumattom, his father PK Mohanan, a retired teacher of Thottakkad Government High School, and his mother Amminikkutty, a retired schoolteacher, had only been informed that an accident had occurred at his workplace. They had not been told of his death until the body was identified.
