
Kozhikode: Culling of chicken has begun in the poultry farm in Kodiyathoor where bird flu was confirmed. The expert team arrived at the egger farm owned by Sereena in Puthiyottil on Sunday by 10.45 am. About 2000 chicken died here following the disease.
A six-member team from the animal husbandry department arrived wearing preventive suit to cull the birds. The culled birds will be burned to ensure complete destruction of the virus. District Collector Sambasiva Rao visited the place and evaluated the situation.
The birds in Sereena’s farm started dying from last Thursday. Following this, samples were sent to the lab in Bhopal and the disease confirmed. As a precautionary measure, sale of chicken and related products have been banned temporarily around 10 kilometre radius surrounding the disease affected region.
