Thiruvananthapuram: MP Benny Behanan stated that the Government of Kerala is backlogging the Covid deaths. He also alleged that the government hid 20,913 deaths caused by Covid. In a press meet at Thiruvanathapuram, he added that a public campaign will be raised to urge the government to bring out the real death counts.
According to the data of medical experts, the acutal number of Covid deaths is three times more than the figures in the report of the government. The government had notified 4,395 deaths in May 2021. But the local bodies reported 10,602 deaths due to Covid in the same month, said Benny Behanan. When 35,851 people succumbed to death due to Covid in the state, the government reported the death of only 14,938. He also claimed that the government is responsible for the disparity in numbers.
Post-Covid deaths are not being reported. It was only after July 3 that the government started to publish the details of those who died due to Covid. Though the government claims that this report is a summary of the mortality rates in the last 24 hours, Benny Behanan pointed out that the report is being published by adding the data of previous deaths without a regular updation. Hence, a Death Count Campaign is going to be launched for compelling the government to publish an accurate report on Covid deaths. The MP informed that the campaign will be initiated through his official Facebook page.
People can upload details of the people, who died fo Covid but was left out from the reports of Covid death statistics of the government, as comments under the posts and videos related to Death Count Campaign in his Facebook page. The Supreme Court has already declared ex-gratia to the familes of people who lost their lives due to Covid. More than 20,000 people may lose this aid because of the falsified reports prepared by the government. Benny Behanan added that his campaign aims to bring out the hidden death count data and to provide the rightful aids for all.
