Thiruvalla: The Metropolitan Bishop of Believers Eastern Church, Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan (formerly known as K P Yohannan), passed away on Wednesday evening. He died from a heart attack while undergoing treatment for serious injuries suffered in a car accident on Tuesday in Texas.

The accident occurred around 5:25 pm IST. According to reports, an unidentified vehicle struck him while he was out for a morning walk. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital. A spokesman for the church had previously stated that he underwent emergency surgery. This new development comes at a crucial time.

He typically took his morning walk on the campus where the Texas headquarters of the Believers Eastern Church is located. However, on Tuesday morning, he ventured outside the campus. He had arrived in the United States just four days prior.
