Kochi: A transgender woman was brutally assaulted with an iron rod by a man in the middle of the road, according to a complaint. The attack took place around 2 am on Friday. 

The victim, Angel, a resident of Vazhakkala, Kakkanad, was allegedly attacked near Palarivattom Metro Station while waiting for a friend. She sustained a fracture in her hand due to the assault.

Incident details
Angel had visited a relative from Kozhikode who was staying near the metro station. After the visit, she called a friend and was waiting nearby when the assailant struck. A man armed with an iron rod approached Angel and attacked her, shouting threats and striking her three times. He also issued death threats. Angel managed to escape towards a nearby Uber vehicle, while bystanders intervened to stop the attacker.

Victim raises safety concerns
Angel, who suffered multiple injuries, expressed concerns over safety, stating that such incidents highlight the lack of security for those waiting for transport at night. Speaking to Mathrubhumi.com, she said she did not know the attacker and claimed he had also assaulted another transgender woman nearby.

A complaint has been filed with the Palarivattom police, and an investigation is underway.
