Thiruvananthapuram: Aryadan Shoukath was sworn in as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Nilambur in a ceremony held at the R Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall in the Kerala Legislative Assembly complex. He took the oath in the name of God.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan, Speaker A N Shamseer, Minister M B Rajesh and several other dignitaries attended the swearing-in ceremony. Leaders from both the UDF and LDF extended their congratulations to the newly elected MLA. Shoukath secured victory in the Nilambur by-election with a majority of 11,077 votes. He received 77,737 votes, while the LDF candidate M Swaraj polled 66,660 votes. Independent candidate P V Anvar received 19,760 votes.
