
Kochi: Archbishop Joseph Chennoth, Apostolic Nuncio to Japan, passed away. He was 76. He had been undergoing treatment for paralysis. The body has been kept at the Mission Hospital in Tokyo.
Joseph Chennoth was born in Kokkamangalam in Cherthala under the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese. He was ordained a priest in 1969.
Joseph Chennoth has worked as the assistant priest at churches in Koratty, Komattam and Ernakulam basilicas. He was also the secretary to Cardinal Joseph Parecattil.
Joseph Chennoth had served in Turkey, Iran. Cameroon, Africa, Belgium, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and Tanzania. He had been serving in Japan since August 2011.
