Kalpetta: The report of the anti-ragging committee detailing the torture inflicted on Pookode Veterinary College Sidharthan has come out. As per the report, 18 individuals had teamed up to torture Sidharthan physically and mentally.
The miscreants started beating up Siddharthan on February 16. Initially, he was subjected to brutal beating at a hilltop near the veterinary college. The same set of people beat him up at different places. If it was once near the water tank, the next onslaught was inside room number 21 in the hostel.
The anti-ragging squad had collected statements from as many as 97 students. Meanwhile, the majority of the students chose to remain silent over the matter.
The prime accused, Sinjo Johnson, is known to have subjected Sidharthan to the worst kind of torture possible. He had punched Sidharthan's stomach and back multiple times. The deceased was stripped and made to walk in only in his underwear through the hostel corridors. Several students acknowledged hearing Siddharthan’s cries.
The accused also forced Sidharthan to act like he was sitting on an imaginary chair. Unable to do so, he fell on the ground several times. Despite having 130 inmates in the hostel, over 100 students on record said that they were unaware of these events.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that two students who joined the college in 2019 and 2022 had faced similar torture. But it did not appear in the news back then and went unreported.
Earlier in the day, the Kerala government issued an order handing over the investigation on Sidharthan’s death to the CBI. The development came after Sidharathan's family met with the Chief Minister at his office in Thiruvananthapuram.
