Chirayinkeezhu: Muthalapozhi harbour, known for being a deadly trap for fishermen, witnessed another boat accident on Tuesday. Fortunately, all six fishermen on board escaped without any injuries.

The boat was partially damaged after crashing onto the breakwaters (Pulimuttu). The incident happened around 8:30 am on Tuesday. The fishing boat, owned by Perumathura native Basheer, met with an accident while going to the harbour from sea. 

Due to the strong waves, the boat lost balance and crashed onto the breakwaters. The boat was carrying Perumathura natives Najeeb (43), Nassar (60), Shameen (47), Nissam (48), Rasheed (45) and Sudheer (39). 

Locals and Coastal Police rescued the fishermen who were thrown onto the sea. Later, locals hauled the damaged boat to the shore. 

The coastal community has been expressing grave concerns over the recurring boat accidents in the area, which have  resulted in the deaths of fishermen during their fishing expeditions. They have been contending that the waters are perilous for their vessels.

Nearly a week after a boat capsized in the area that left four fishermen dead, a central team of experts led by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan visited the area in the morning to assess the situation and work out a solution for the problem of recurring boat accidents in the coastal area close to the fishing harbour.
