Thiruvananthapuram:  CPM leader and Speaker AN Shamseer will hold a press meeting on Wednesday and is likely to clarify his recent myth vs science remark, which irked a section of Hindu community organisations.

CPM apparently believes that by drawing attention to Shamseer's comments, Sangh Parivar is attempting to incite a protest similar to the 2018 Sabarimala protests. As a result, CPM plans to take a careful approach to the matter and avoid unnecessary remarks that could sparkle protests from religious communities. CPM also views the recent protests as a move from the BJP to appease Hindu groups ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier, the Nair Service Society (NSS) came against Shamseer's remark that Hindu mythologies were being portrayed as scientific truth by the Union government. Following this, NSS decided to observe August 2 as Faith Preservation Day.

Many consider the demonstrations in 2018 over the admission of women to the hill shrine of Sabarimala as the main cause of the CPM's dismal showing in the Lok Sabha election held in 2019.
