Kozhikode (Kerala): A complaint has been filed alleging that a girl receiving treatment at the Government Beach Hospital in Kozhikode was sexually assaulted by a staff. The girl, who had been undergoing physiotherapy sessions at the hospital for a month, filed a police complaint after experiencing misconduct from a male staff member.

According to the complaint, when the girl visited last Wednesday, she was attended by a male health worker. Usually, her regular physiotherapy sessions are handed by female staff. It is alleged that the accused sexually assaulted the girl during the session.

The incident came after the victim disclosed her ordeal with the female health staff during a subsequent visit for treatment. Police arrived at the hospital to gather information from the girl, and a case has been registered against the accused staff.

In a similar incident, a woman who was admitted to the Government Medical College in Kozhikode for thyroid surgery had lodged a sexual assault complaint against a hospital staff in November 2023. The complaint was levelled against a Grade l Attender at the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. The woman, who was not fully conscious after the surgery, was shifted to the ICU from the operation theatre. The complaint noted that she was sexually abused by the hospital staff at the ICU.
