Alappuzha: In a hilarious incident, a thief who broke into an unoccupied house and decided to live there woke up to find a large police team surrounding him. Though he attempted to escape by outsmarting the police, he was chased down and caught. Several theft cases have since been linked to him. The incident occurred in Alappuzha.

Ajay Metha, an interstate thief from Mumbai, was apprehended by Chengannur Police the other day. He had reportedly been in Kerala for the past few days. His arrest came as a complete surprise to him. He was comfortably staying at the unoccupied house near the municipal office premises when the house owner's brother arrived to water the plants. Sensing some activity inside, he immediately informed the police.

When the police unlocked the door and entered, they found the thief fast asleep. Startled awake by the commotion, Ajay was shocked to see himself surrounded by police officers. He tried to run, however, failed. Upon searching his bag, the police discovered tools used for cutting metal and wood, along with lethal weapons, including a machete.

After being taken to the police station and interrogated, Ajay confessed to being a thief.
Further investigations led to the recovery of stolen items that had been buried in various locations. The investigation team believes further questioning of the suspect, who is now in remand, will reveal more theft cases.
