Alappuzha: Kerala Health Minister Veena George said on Thursday that Alappuzha Medical College will not lose seats this academic year and measures have been taken to admit students to all 175 MBBS seats.

“The all-India quota seats of Alappuzha Medical College have been included in the  National Medical Commission (NMC) seat matrix. Steps have also been initiated to admit students in the Kerala quota and ease the procedures,” said the minister.

She further added that NMC recognition has been given to the admissions to all 100 MBBS seats in Konni, Idukki Medical Colleges for this year. Necessary measures have been taken to retain PG seats as well.

NMC had denied recognition to the MBBS courses in many new government medical colleges in the state and Alappuzha Government Medical College citing serious shortage in faculty and residents. Reports also said NMC was willing to give exemption to colleges for the current year. Veena George's remarks come at this juncture.
