Alappuzha: In a moving display of love and determination, a couple from Alappuzha went ahead with their wedding on Friday, not in a decorated auditorium, but inside a hospital room, after the bride was injured in a road accident just hours before the ceremony.

Aavani, the bride, was returning from a beauty parlour near Thanneermukkom when the car she was travelling in met with an accident. She sustained a spinal injury and a leg fracture. She was first taken to Kottayam Medical College and later shifted to a private hospital in Kochi.

The wedding had been scheduled for 12.12 pm at the Shakti Auditorium in Alappuzha, with the auspicious muhurtam falling between 12.12 and 12.25 pm.

Although the accident caused panic among both families, doctors assured them that Aavani’s condition was stable and not life-threatening. In an extraordinary decision, the families opted not to postpone the wedding. Instead, they decided to hold the ceremony inside the hospital so the couple could marry within the auspicious time.

The groom, Sharon of Thumpoli, tied the thaali on Aavani hand as she lay on the hospital bed, surrounded by relatives and medical staff who witnessed the emotional moment.

Meanwhile, relatives and guests who had already gathered at the auditorium continued with the planned feast, turning it into a symbolic celebration.

Hospital authorities said three others travelling with Aavani were also injured and are being treated at Kottayam Medical College.

Aavani is scheduled to undergo surgery on Saturday.
