Alappuzha: A shocking incident has come to light after an elephant trainee allegedly performed a dangerous stunt with his five-month-old baby in front of a captive elephant, causing the child to slip and fall beneath the animal. Disturbing visuals of the incident have since surfaced.

The incident occurred on Sunday and involved Kottayam native Abhilash, a trainee mahout of the elephant Skandan, which is kept at Haripad. According to reports, the child’s rice-feeding ceremony had earlier been held at the Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple in Haripad. Following the ceremony, the baby was taken to the elephant camp.

At the camp, the trainee reportedly attempted to seat the infant on the elephant’s tusks and later walked beneath the animal while holding the child. During the act, the baby slipped from his hands and fell to the ground under the elephant. Fortunately, the elephant did not react violently at that moment.

There were three trainees present with the elephant at the time, and all of them were reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

The elephant Skandan has a history of violence. In August, the animal attacked two trainees, killing one of them, while the other sustained serious injuries and is still undergoing treatment. Following the fatal incident, the elephant was chained and has remained at the same location for several months. It has not been moved since and continues to be provided with food and other necessities at the site where it is tethered.
